From Salzburg to Hollywood and back again
Following unanimous decisions by the province and city of Salzburg, it is now official: the animal keeper and gamekeeper’s house, as well as the adjoining coach house – essentially the ‘outposts’ of Hellbrunn Palace – are being renovated and adapted near the legendary Sound of Music gazebo. In mid-2026, they will open as the ‘Sound of Music Salzburg’ seasonal museum.
The museum will not only explore the enduring phenomenon of the Hollywood film classic and the musical, but also shed light on the true story of the singing Trapp Family. An experience designed not only for international visitors following in the footsteps of the film locations, but also for the people of Salzburg themselves.
