Life and work of the composer Franz Xaver Gruber

In a wonderful, new atmosphere, the work of the composer of the carol ‘Silent Night’ is presented. The museum is located in the former sacristan and choirmaster’s house, where Franz Xaver Gruber lived and worked for 28 years. The focus is also on the history of the carol’s creation and spread. Dive into the past, experience history, and enjoy the music!

Silent Night Museum Hallein tells the story of Franz Xaver Gruber and his family. The diverse programme of events includes theatrical tours, music, and family activities.

A cast of Hans Baier’s bust allows visitors to experience it with their sense of touch. For blind and visually impaired people, photographs of Franz Xaver Gruber have been created as tactile images and supplemented with Braille captions.
